FAQ¶
A*LIVE App - Pairing with the smartphone¶
**For what purpose should I connect the unit to the smartphone via Bluetooth?
To use the app together with your A*LIVE. Primarily messaging, maps…
What is the Bluetooth pairing > code?
You do not need a code. Turn on the Bluetooth on your smartphone, start the app and connect in the A*LIVE app.
A*LIVE Housing¶
How does the device behave against salt water, or on the beach with sea spray and thunder?
The unit is fully protected against the ingress of dust.
It floats by itself, is waterproof. Protection against temporary submersion, up to 0.5 m depth
A*LIVE LEDs & TASTEN¶
Activations: Tariff and alarm activations¶
A*LIVE has one tariff activation and 2 alarm activations (notifications and escalations to GEOS, if applicable).
1) The TARIF activation is required for your device to connect, both on the mobile network and on the Iridium network.
Regarding the satellite iridium network, the tariffs differ as follows: In the BASIC tariff and in Safety & Tracking the Iridium activation always happens automatically: As soon as you leave the mobile phone area with an A*LIVE (GSM/4G required) switched on, the Iridium tariff is automatically activated (after 10 minutes) and remains active until the A*LIVE is switched off normally in the GSM/4G area. You do not need to activate your own tariff in the system.
In all other tariffs (except BASIC) you can change the tariff here here!
2) The Alarm activations differ in Notifications - here friends/family/team are entered as the first alarm recipients - and in Escalations - alarm to rescue control centres such as GEOS.
These can be switched on and off in the Dashboard.
Battery life¶
Smart Battery Saver
For maximum operating time, your unit will go to sleep on its own if it is not moved for more than 15 minutes. As soon as it feels a vibration, it goes back into operation. A GPS speed measurement is also taken here to prevent the gyro sensor from sensing any vibration during particularly quiet movements (e.g. paragliding), but there is still movement above ground.
How can I still save the battery?
Pack the A*LIVE warmly and do not place it under roofs etc. while it is switched on! In Iridium mode, the unit will periodically try to connect to the server to check for new messages that may be waiting for you - even if tracking mode is disabled. Therefore, you should allow a clear view of the sky so that not too much energy is needed for this connection to the satellites and server.
Data tariffs¶
IMPORTANT
The tariff remains active until you have specified a StandBy date. Please use the following form here! for this purpose.
Is it possible to change the tariff during the year? The BASIC annual fee remains the same, but you can switch to the other higher tariffs every month free of charge.
Enable/Disable StandBy topic:
I have understood so far that for € 9 I can buy an active period of 7 days and then also use it for 7 consecutive days.,
You got that right.
Does the standby simply mean that the billing of the selected tariff level is interrupted, i.e. that another period of 7 days is not simply booked?
Exactly, because with the StandBy mode you deactivate or reactivate your last selected tariff.
Is a change, for example, from 30 days to 7 days within the same tariff a downgrade that is subject to a charge or does this only apply if I change from the messaging to the tracking tariff, for example?
Within e.g. A*LIVE Safety&Messaging there are no costs to change from month to day. When changing from a “higher” to a “lower” e.g. from A*LIVE Safety&Messaging to A*LIVE Safety&Tracking, a downgrade fee of 25 € will apply.
Data consumption management¶
Where can I see which subscription I have and what is already used up (e.g. number of messages in the current month)**?
Devices → Comments: Your current tariff is entered here. However, you can always send us an email to check the data consumption and we can then give you an update manually.
What are all “messages” and are credited or deducted from the balance?
Sent and received mails + SMS. (everything that is not tracking) You can store as many recipients as you like with the handlers. Use of the preset messages (handler) as e-mail and Telegram free of charge. As SMS € 0.10 each
**Under “Handler” I can also set up status messages such as “Switch-to-Iridium” or “End-Charge”, which then inform me via the smartphone.
Or any other persons As a trader, we recommend that you only deposit real text messages. Things like “Switch-to-Iridium” or “End-Charge” are recognisable on the A*LIVE itself.
Are these “handlers” also deducted from the message balance?
No. You can store as many recipients as you like with the handlers. Use of the preset messages (handler) as e-mail and Telegram free of charge. As SMS € 0.10 each
Is it an advantage here if the smartphone is connected via Bluetooth, so that these handlers do not run via the GSM network but directly to the smartphone?
No, the handlers are always sent via the A*LIVE.
False alarms¶
To avoid false alarms, you can cancel any alarm you have triggered yourself (press SOS again 3 times), which is passed on to all alarm receivers. The same applies to automatic alarms detected by the SmartSafety system in the background. (orange LED 1+2+3 flash). These can also be acknowledged by pressing SOS 3 times.
Insurance in the event of false alarms
There is no insurance from our side for triggering a false alarm. Possible cost coverage must be clarified with your insurance company.
Flight mode¶
Do I have to switch off the A*LIVE on an airline flight or is there something like a flight mode?
Since the A*LIVE, just like a smartphone, works in the GSM network, it should be OFF (depending on the respective airline guidelines).
Radio connection¶
What limits Irididum satellite reception?
The human body shields radio waves because it consists of 70% water. This means that a satellite signal travels 780 km, but has little chance of passing through the body. Therefore, the A*LIVE should always be worn high up, with a view of the horizon.
other possible causes:
- Thunderstorm, heavy rain
- Gorges, mountain ranges
- high buildings
In these environments it is not impossible to have reception, but there can be long delays in data transmission (10-30 minutes). Since the satellites are constantly in motion and thus also detect a “gap” in the canyon once in unfavourable conditions.
Satellite hotspot¶
Satellite hotspot for your smartphone > what is meant by this?
Transmission of messages from the A*LIVE app, text communication (email + SMS etc.), even if you have no GSM reception, i.e. the Iridium satellite network is used.
Sleep mode of the unit¶
For maximum operating time, your unit will go to sleep on its own if it is not moved for more than 15 minutes. As soon as it feels a vibration, it goes back into operation. A GPS speed measurement is also taken here to prevent the gyro sensor from sensing any vibration during particularly quiet movements (e.g. paragliding), but there is still movement above ground.
TripShare¶
Somehow I have a confusion between live tracking and trip share. By trip share I mean that I can display and also send tracks that have been made. By live tracking I mean that the current location of a running track can be communicated or continuously tracked.
Trip-Share offers to share a completed trip or a current trip (LiveTracking ) with friends and family.
How can I generate a link and send it to other people?
Trips - ThreePoints (right side) - Open → TripView opens, you can share this URL or integrate it into your website.
I would like to implement live tracking on my own WordPress site. How do I do this, or do I get a URL which I can then integrate via iFrame?
Create link at: Trips → ThreePoints (top right) → Open → TripView opens, you can share this URL or integrate it into your website. For integration into your website as an iFrame:
Tripshare and SmartSafety module: For what purpose do I enter Contacts? Can I call them up again somewhere and not have to enter the same number several times?
These are exclusively for GEOS in order to be able to fall back on these contacts in an emergency. The persons stored in notifications are not taken into account by GEOS.
Insurance¶
How can I insure myself for rescue and recovery costs?
Various insurances, e.g. from GEOS, DAV or Allianz, are recommended to cover rescue and recovery operations. Please check whether your existing (health) insurance already includes “SAR” (Search and Rescue) search and rescue operations! It may be advisable to upgrade to cover larger operations. No insurance yet? Here you can book your GEOS insurance:
